Passenger Ferry Rules

To assure safe passage, there are specific rules for using the passenger ferry. Click here to read them... Ultimately, though, the ferry captain has final judgment and authority.

Garbage

Hat island has a designated area for our garbage and recycling. It is located in the covered garage on the NE most corner of the Everett Yacht Club Building. The area will remain locked and the ferry crew will open it upon arrival in Everett.

Cargo Barge

The Hat Island Community owns and operates a cargo barge known as the Elsie M II. It is a converted "Landing Craft, Marine" hence the name LCM or Elsie M. It is a shallow draft boat capable of hauling a load 38’6" by 12’ but its lift gate will only accommodate loads 10’ wide. The vessel’s normal load limit is 30 tons. Any load heaver than 30 tons will require special planning considerations. With a normal load the barge requires a +3' tide to load or unload. Heavy loads may require up to an 8' tide to load. The vessel master will have final authority in determining if a load can safely be transported given configuration, tides, and weather conditions.

The barge loads and departs from the Everett Public Boat Launch.

To schedule the Elsie M II, contact the island office.

COMMUNITY RUN―There is a prescheduled run the first Saturday of each month, except when the 1st Saturday is on a holiday weekend and as long as there is a +3' tide. Loading begins at 7:30am and departure is at 9:00am. Owners desiring to transport items on the Community run must contact the Island office to reserve space. Cost of each load will be determined by the vessel master at the time of loading. See example rates, below. Payment must be in cash or check at the time of loading. Cars and trucks will not be scheduled on the community run from April through September, but they may be loaded if space is available. No guarantees.

VEHICLE TRANSPORT―Cars and trucks to be transported to the island must have a copy of the vehicle title before scheduling. The office will not schedule the run unless the owner has the title in their possession and the vessel master will not load the vehicle without a copy of the title at the time of loading. There will be no exceptions to this rule! A vehicle which shows up for a scheduled run without a copy of the title will be charged a no show fee.

PASSENGERS―The Elsie M II is primarily a cargo vessel. It has space and PFD’s (personal floatation devices) for up to six passengers, including the skipper. The one-way cost of passenger transportation is the same as the passenger rates for the Holiday. Persons accompanying a paying cargo load do not pay for passage. Passenger space on the Elsie M II is first-come-first-served.

Cargo Barge Rates

Cargo barge rates depend on the size and weight of what you are transporting, the day of the week, and whether the run is charter, shared, or community.

A detailed description of the rates is available here...

If you have any questions regarding rates, contact the island office.
